From a natural hunting blind of ferns and conifers mixed with the heavy underbrush, a pair of cold, calculating, reptilian eyes watch in readiness ― not just in search of potential prey, but also in wariness of much larger predators that might be lurking nearby. They are the eyes of a veritable killing machine. They are your eyes.
It is the Early Cretaceous Period of the Mesozoic Era ― a time when archosaurians have dominion over the land, the sea, and the air. You are a female Utahraptor, and at nearly 25 feet in length and standing 6.5 feet tall at the hip, you are easily the biggest and most dangerous dromaeosaurid to have ever walked the earth. It is your impressive size and agility, coupled with your foot-long, sickle-shaped, kill claws, that make you the formidable and fearsome hunter you are.
A flicker of movement arrests your focus, but it proves to be nothing more than a solitary leaf spiraling down from the canopy of green above.
Suddenly, over the noisy drone of insects, your keen hearing picks up the faint, but distinct sounds of something in distress…
