Not long ago, I purchased the entire Mythical Realms collection of fantasy figurines from Safari Ltd., and since many of these creatures appear in my Savage Realms gamebooks, what better way to show them off than by also sharing an excerpt.
This little snippet is from Malivor: Cataclysm’s Edge…
The passageway snakes its way back and forth before culminating at a precipice that overlooks an enormous cavern. Cautiously making your way to its edge and peering downward, what you see immediately gives you fearful pause, for literally covering the entirety of the cavern floor are the bones and skeletal remains of both men and beast alike. You quickly realize that you and the halfling have stumbled upon the lair of some terrible creature.
While you are pondering what manner of monster it might be, Tolman quietly directs your attention to a flight of rough-hewn stairs descending from the precipice to the bottom of the cavern below.
Suddenly, the deathly silence of the cave is shattered by a series of beastly bellows and howls reverberating throughout the cavern. Emerging from a passage on the far side are two giant, ape-like creatures covered in white fur and walking upright. You immediately identify them as yeti ― savagely cruel monsters with an insatiable appetite for human flesh.
Within moments, the yeti’s keen eyes have spotted you and your companion, and after pounding on their massive chests with their large fists, the bipedal brutes begin to sprint full speed across the bone-riddled cavern towards your position.
What happens next could not have been any more unexpected, for even as you and Tolman brace yourselves for the impending clash, several tentacle-like appendages suddenly burst forth from beneath the bones and wrap themselves around the yeti. In another instant, both of the struggling yeti have been pulled under and are gone…
